Two homeowners discovered an SUV crashed into their houses early Thursday morning.
The driver crashed into the first house around 12:30 a.m. on Roselawn Avenue. The driver then backed up and hit a house across the street on Idlewild Drive.
The vehicle caused significant damage to the home on Roselawn.
The homeowner told 10TV he didn’t hear the crash, which he calls a “catastrophe.”
Alvin Whyte says he woke up to go to the bathroom and felt cold air on his feet. That’s when he looked around and discovered the mess.
“The wall’s down, the door’s down and structural damage. I’m angry, but there’s nothing I can do about it for the moment,” said Whyte.
The homeowner on Idlewild says he heard a noise but didn’t realize the car hit his home and dismissed it. It was a neighbor that alerted George Saez that his home was hit. He says he would normally have been sitting in his living room where the car smashed through, but he happened to be in bed that night.
“The wall is caved in and there’s a big gap between the window and the wall, so I don’t know how I’m going to keep the cold out,” Saez said.
The driver also hit Saez’s van which was parked in the driveway.
No one inside the homes was hurt.
The driver has not been caught and there is no vehicle description.
Columbus Police say a building inspector will come out to check for structural damage.
