Fire crews were working to learn what caused a blaze that displaced nearly 30 people Monday morning.
Multiple fire crews were called to flight flames at an apartment building on Iuka Avenue early Monday morning.
The fire at the three-story apartment, located at North Fourth Avenue and Iuka Avenue, occurred at about 3:30 a.m.
A viewer on scene said that he saw flames shooting from the roof.
“I mean there was like firemen banging on the doors and all that kind of stuff,” victim Caleb Downey said. “When I peaked back into the apartment building the whole building was covered with smoke.”
Fire crews had a difficult time fighting the flames, because of trees surrounding the building. Firefighters were seen cutting tree limbs to get to the roof.
Fire crews said that they were able to get everyone out of the apartment. There were no reports of injuries.
Investigators determined that the fire started on a third floor balcony.
