Discover Ohio: Fenton Art Glass

WILLIAMSTOWN, West Virginia - Collectors worldwide can't get enough.

Fenton Art Flass creates works of art out of glass and offers free tours for all to see.

"We produce the most diverse color palette of any art glass company in the world," said owner Scott Fenton.

Fenton Art Glass got it's start in an old glass factory building in Martins Ferry.

Two years later they moved across to Williamstown, West Virginia, just across the Ohio River from Marietta.

"Years ago out best selling item was a cuspador that you release in at a dentist office after you have your teeth cleaned.  That was out best seller for a long time," said Fenton.

Now Fenton fans buy up vases, bowls, plates, beads, lamps and pitchers.  All are made of glass, hand created and painted.

Products are sold in more than 3,000 stores across the United States and the home shopping network QVC.

The economy has taken its toll on the family business which at one time employed 700 workers.  It now just has 150 employees.

Still, Fenton fans are faithful.

"We've found a way to make it work for 102 years and that's what we're doing right now," said Fenton.
