Delaware Councilman Killed In Plane Crash

The family of a Delaware city councilman is expected to release a statement today about his death, one day after he was killed in a plane crash. Get details.

Investigators were working to determine the cause of a Wednesday plane crash that claimed thelife of a Delaware city councilman.

The small private plane that Jim Moore was flying crashed along London Road, not far from theDelaware Municipal Airport, 10TV's Kevin Landers reported.

Witnesses said that the aircraft banked to the side and then suddenly went down into afield.

"Some other associates and I tried to get as many fire extinguishers as we could," said ScottWoodruff, a worker who witnessed the crash.  "We just really ran out of time."

Investigators were awaiting dental records to confirm the pilot's identity, but a family friendsaid that Moore was onboard.  His enthusiasm for flying was showcased in a Port Authorityvideo that promoted the airport.

Moore, a city councilmember since 1999, was flying in a light sport aircraft, investigatorssaid.

"It appears it was a rented plane that was making an approach to the runway," said Ohio StateHighway Patrol Sgt. Steve Herron.

It was not immediately clear how long Moore was flying before he ran into trouble. Investigators said that the plane clipped a tree during its descent.

Witnesses who watched the crash told troopers that the pilot could not even attempt a crashlanding. 

A family friend said that flying was Moore's passion.  The family was expected to release astatement on Thursday, Landers reported.

Moore had four children.  One of them, Josh, was killed in an accidental shooting in2007.
