LOGAN COUNTY, Ohio — A woman who admitted to being impaired during a crash that killed a 17-year-old girl in Logan County earlier this year was sentenced on Tuesday.
Briana Mohler, 33, pleaded guilty last month to aggravated vehicular homicide, OVI and driving under a suspended license. Mohler faced an involuntary manslaughter charge, but it was later dismissed. A judge sentenced her to 11 to 16.5 years in prison for the aggravated vehicular homicide charge. She was also sentenced to 180 days for the OVI charge, which will be served concurrently.
Mohler's sentencing comes months after a crash on Jan. 25 that killed Chloe Hodge.
Mohler was driving a 2000 Ford F-150 north on County Road 130 when she traveled left of center and into the path of Chloe, who was driving a 2011 Honda CR-Z. The vehicles collided head-on.
A police crash report states that investigators tested Mohler’s blood for suspected drug use. She was taken to a hospital where she had admitted to recently using narcotics.
Chloe was taken to a hospital and died from her injuries.
Chloe was a junior at Indian Lake High School and part of the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center health career academy.
During a plea hearing last month, Logan County Prosecutor Eric Stewart said Mohler should have never been out on the road that day. Mohler was also out on bond for aggravated possession of narcotics.
In addition to the prison sentence, Mohler will be on probation for two to five years once she is released. She will also never be allowed to have a drivers license again.
