COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 20-year-old woman was sentenced to at least 14 years in prison after she pleaded guilty to killing another woman at Wedgewood Village Apartments two years ago.
Nachyla Halton, 20, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of 19-year-old Jazmine Chester on May 27, 2022.
Police went to Briggs Road near Wedgewood Drive for a well-being check on Chester. She had not been seen or heard from for over a week.
Officers found Chester face down in the bathroom with a gunshot wound to the face. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police in South Euclid, located about 10 miles east of Cleveland, arrested Halton on unrelated charges. The prosecutor’s office said Halton had been seen with Chester before her death.
It is still not known what led to Chester's death.
After pleading guilty, Halton was sentenced to 14 to 19 and a half years in prison.
