Whitehall police arrest couple wanted in multi-state crime spree

A Whitehall officer suffered minor injuries during the arrest of Curtis Morgan and Kayla Osborn.

WHITEHALL, Ohio — A crime spree that began for a couple in Indiana ended in Whitehall Wednesday.

Officers with the Whitehall Division of Police quickly surrounded a stolen van with Curtis Morgan and Kayla Osborn inside.

Their alleged crime spree started when an officer tried to pull them over in Lawrence, Indiana on Wednesday.

“It led to a resisting arrest with an officer. He got tasered. Somehow he was able to escape them, jump in his car.  Our understanding is he had actually driven away from the scene, but had turned around and came back just to try to run over the officer,” said Whitehall Police Deputy Chief Dan Kelso.

Whitehall police say after getting away from the Lawrence officer, they broke into a home in Indiana and stole a car.

Flock license plate reading cameras alerted Whitehall police to the stolen car Thursday morning.

Morgan yelled at officers as they put him in handcuffs.

“He still had the Taser barbs in his back from being tased,” Kelso explained.

Morgan has a criminal record dating back to 2002 including burglary, drugs, domestic violence and gun charges.

“These are very dangerous people. This guy has a long criminal history. He's got gang-affiliated tattoos all over him, prison tattoos,” Kelso said.

After Whitehall police searched the van, they found several stolen credit cards, other people's identification and a purse belonging to a woman from Dayton.

“They came through Dayton where they burglarized a house. We didn't know that and the victim didn't know that until after we found them with the victim's property,” Kelso explained.

Kelso says he's glad his officers were able to lock the duo up before they hurt anyone else.

“All they are going to do is victimize people. They are not going to do that now,” Kelso said.

Morgan and Osborn are on their way back to Indiana. Franklin County court records say they are both charged with receiving stolen property. Morgan is also charged with resisting arrest.
