2 killed, several injured in separate weekend shootings across Columbus

Each incident remains under investigation and no suspect information has been released at this time.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two people were killed and six others were injured in separate shootings across the city of Columbus this weekend.

One of the victims was a juvenile and all of those who were injured are expected to be OK, police say.

In total, there have been five shootings since 5 p.m. Saturday. Each incident remains under investigation and no suspect information has been released at this time.

Saturday

Milo Grogan

5:51 p.m. | Two people were injured in a shooting Saturday evening in the Milo Grogan neighborhood.

Police say the shooting happened in the area of East 3rd and Lexington avenues around 5:50 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

The victim was taken to Grant Medical Center in serious condition. A short time later, police say a second victim arrived at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the hand.

Both victims are expected to be OK.

Walnut Heights

6:50 p.m. | A 28-year-old man is dead after a shooting outside of a gas station in southeast Columbus Saturday evening.

Officers were called to the 2600 block of Noe-Bixby Road around 6:50 p.m. on reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a man, later identified as Michael Simmons, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Simmons was transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital where he was pronounced dead just after 7:20 p.m.

South Linden

9:42 p.m. | Three people were shot Saturday evening in the area of East 13th and Cleveland avenues in South Linden, police say.

Police found one victim in the 1100 block of East 12th Avenue. Two other victims reportedly arrived at a nearby hospital with gunshot wounds. Police say all of the victims are expected to survive their injuries.

Northeast Columbus

11:29 p.m. Police say a 36-year-old man is dead after a shooting on the city's northeast side Saturday night.

Officers were called to the 800 block of Murray Avenue, near East 5th Avenue, just before 11:50 p.m. on a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Dajuan Rios suffering from a gunshot wound.

Rios was transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead just after 3:20 a.m. Sunday.

Sunday

South Columbus

6:19 a.m. | A juvenile was injured in a shooting Sunday morning in the area of Lockbourne and Smith roads.

When officers arrived to the area, they found the victim with a gunshot wound to the leg. The juvenile was taken to a nearby hospital and described by police as stable. Police say the victim is expected to recover from their injury.
