US Marshals arrest man wanted in deadly shooting outside Columbus nightclub in 2020

Gvon Thornton is charged with murder, attempted murder and felonious assault.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Authorities arrested a suspect accused of fatally shooting a man and wounding another person outside of a Columbus nightclub more than three years ago.

According to the US Marshals office, Gvon Thorton was arrested Wednesday morning at a house on a Vendrome Drive.

The Columbus Division of Police said on July 26, 2020, officers were called to the 1400 East block of 5th Avenue on a report of a shooting outside of a nightclub just after 2 a.m.

Officers found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Dalan Wellman, 21, was transported to a hospital and died a short time later. A second man survived his injuries.

Thornton is charged with murder, attempted murder and felonious assault. Two other suspects, Aaron Clark and Marquis Smith, were also charged in the shooting and are already in custody.
