COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Franklin County judge set a $2 million bond for the 18-year-old suspect charged with allegedly shooting and killing a man in southeast Columbus last month.
Dwayne Johnson was arrested by federal law enforcement officers and charged with the murder of 28-year-old Michael Simmons.
Johnson is the second suspect arrested in the shooting death of Simmons. Isaiah Wharton-Howard, 18, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals on Aug. 22 and also charged with murder.
Franklin County Municipal Court records state that on Aug. 3, Johnson and Simmons were fighting in the parking lot of the Amberly Square Apartments on Brandy Drive.
Police wrote in the affidavit that Wharton-Howard intervened in the fight, pulled out a gun and fired it at Simmons.
Court records state Simmons ran away and Johnson chased after him for about 100 yards before shooting him at the Marathon gas station on Noe Bixby Road. Simmons was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Johnson was arrested at the intersection of Lockbourne Road and East Stewart Avenue in southeast Columbus Thursday morning.
