Police arrest suspect accused of fatally shooting man near University District Kroger

Deshawn Caldwell was arrested on Halloween when he was detained during an unrelated incident, according to police.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police arrested a suspect accused of shooting and killing a 51-year-old man in the University District last week.

Deshawn Caldwell, 34, is charged with murder in the shooting death of Paul Allgood on Oct. 26.

Officers were called to the 1300 block of North High Street near the Kroger grocery store that day on a reported shooting. They arrived and found Allgood suffering from a gunshot wound.

Medics transported Allgood to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center where he later died.

Police believe a dispute between Allgood and Caldwell led to the shooting.

Columbus police issued an arrest warrant for Caldwell the day after the shooting. He was arrested on Halloween after he was detained during an unrelated incident, according to police.

Caldwell is currently being held in the Franklin County Corrections Center. He was arraigned in Franklin County Municipal Court Saturday morning, where his bond was set at $2 million.
