Tires, rims stolen from several vehicles in Columbus apartment parking garage

Officers found multiple vehicles inside a parking garage that had the tires and rims stolen on Sunday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Over the weekend, Columbus police said several vehicles were stripped of their rims and tires at the Founders apartment complex in the Harrison West neighborhood.

According to police, on Sunday around 12:12 p.m., officers were called to 555 West 5th Avenue for thefts of multiple vehicles. Once they arrived, officers found multiple vehicles inside a parking garage that had the tires and rims stolen.

One of those cars belongs to Ryan Loris, who owns a Honda Civic.

“It's more of a nuisance than anything,” he said.

Loris said he went out to check his car on Sunday after a friend sent him a text.

"I just got this car in April, and it's the first new car that I bought,” he said.

Several of the cars that were sitting on cinder blocks were Hondas.

"Why are you doing this? I don’t genuinely get it. Out of all the stuff you could steal, why are you stealing tires,” Loris said

Daniel Jeffery, who lives at the complex, had his tires stolen in 2020 while he was living in a different apartment in Columbus.

“You stand there for a second and you're like 'What do I even do,'” said Jeffery.

In August, police received reports of car and rim thefts in the Italian Village. Just two weeks ago at the LAZ parking garage off Long Street, the same thing happened to several vehicles.

Jeffery said he encourages all car owners to invest in tire locks.

"My wheels are still there, and I think it's because of the tire locks, I think they would've targeted my car as well,” said Jeffery.

Columbus police said this investigation is led by the Property Crimes Bureau.
