Sheriff: Suspect in custody after hourslong standoff, gunfire exchanged with authorities near Indian Lake

Authorities returned gunfire, injuring the suspect who eventually exited the home.

LAKEVIEW, Ohio — A suspect was taken into custody Wednesday following a shooting involving deputies near Indian Lake.

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 caller reported around 10:30 a.m. that their home was struck by gunfire. When deputies arrived, they learned that the shot came from a nearby home on Big Bear Path near Indian Lake.

Deputies attempted to talk to the resident of that home but were unable to get anyone to answer the door. Nearby neighbors were asked to leave their homes for their safety, the sheriff’s office says.

Numerous attempts were made to get the suspect to come out so authorities could talk to him. The sheriff's office said the suspect refused and fired multiple rounds at law enforcement officials from inside the home. No officers or deputies were injured.

Authorities returned gunfire, injuring the suspect who eventually exited the home.

He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital and is now in custody. His condition is unknown.

According to the sheriff’s office, the standoff ended at approximately 9:19 p.m.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called to investigate since the shooting involved law enforcement.

The name of the suspect has not yet been released.
