COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 17-year-old student is accused of bringing a firearm to Central High School Tuesday morning.
Officers were called to the high school in the 800 block of West State Street about a firearm being recovered from a student.
A school security guard told officers that as students arrived just before 8:55 a.m., he conducted a safety weapons check and recovered a firearm from a student’s pocket.
School personnel advised that the student be removed from the school following the incident. Police say the student’s removal happened hours prior to police contact and arrival.
Officers recovered the weapon from school personnel. Police did not provide additional information on the firearm.
Detectives submitted charges against the student to the Franklin County Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office. The charges include illegal conveyance or possession of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone and carrying concealed weapons.
