OSHP: 5 juveniles taken into custody following high-speed pursuit with troopers in stolen vehicle

The driver of the stolen vehicle, a 15-year-old, appeared before a judge in Delaware County Juvenile Court.

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Five juveniles were taken into custody following a high-speed pursuit with state troopers involving a stolen vehicle from Columbus on Wednesday morning, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Four have been released, but one remains in custody.

OSHP told 10TV that sometime after 3 a.m., troopers tried to stop a vehicle for multiple infractions, which included the tail lights being out. Authorities said the vehicle took off and a pursuit began.

Authorities said the pursuit of the stolen vehicle reached high speeds but did not say how fast the vehicles were going or how long the chase lasted. OSHP added that at one point, the vehicle was driving in the wrong lane of state Route 750 in Delaware County.

The pursuit ended at Goldsmith Drive and Sunbury Road in Westerville after investigators believed the stolen vehicle ran out of gas.

OSHP said five people were taken into custody following the pursuit and that six juveniles in total were involved in the incident. The agency confirmed that their ages range from 11 to 15 years old. The sixth juvenile was not captured.

One of the juveniles was tased after OSHP said they were running toward a trooper. The trooper warned the juvenile to stop before deploying the Taser.

The driver of the stolen vehicle, a 15-year-old, appeared before a judge in Delaware County Juvenile Court. He's currently being held at the Marysville Juvenile Detention Center.

The four other juveniles were taken by either their parents or Franklin County Children's Services.

The Columbus Division of Police, the Genoa Police Department and the Delaware County Sheriff's Office assisted with the investigation.
