4 teens lead OSHP on chase from Delaware to Richland counties in stolen Kia, authorities say

OSHP says the Columbus Division of Police confirmed the Kia was stolen.

DELAWARE COUNTY, Ohio — Authorities took four teenagers into custody after a chase that stretched from Delaware to Richland counties in a stolen vehicle early Wednesday morning.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a trooper attempted to pull over a 2014 Kia Optima traveling 96 mph in a 70 mph zone on Interstate 71 North in Berkshire Township in Delaware County.

The driver of the vehicle didn't stop and a chase ensued, with the Kia reaching speeds of 130 mph.
OSHP says the driver exited at state Route 97 in Richland County, ran a red light, struck a concrete barrier and crashed into a ditch.

After the crash, four teenagers got out of the vehicle and ran. Authorities were able to take all of them into custody. The ages of the teens are either 15 or 16 years old.

OSHP says the Columbus Division of Police confirmed the Kia was stolen.

The driver and one of the other teenagers were taken to the Delaware County Juvenile Detention Center. The other two teens were released to the custody of their parents.

Authorities charged the driver with receiving stolen property, possession of criminal tools and failure to comply with the order of a police officer by eluding or fleeing — all felonies.

The three passengers were charged with receiving stolen property, a felony, and failure to comply with order of a police officer, a misdemeanor.
