Man who killed college student at Columbus gas station sentenced to 32 years to life in prison

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus man who was found guilty of murdering an honors college student at a gas station nearly two years ago was sentenced to 32 years to life in prison.

Keimariyon Ross, 20, was convicted in July on nine felony counts, including murder, attempted murder, felonious assault and improperly handling a firearm In a motor vehicle.

Ross was charged in the shooting death of 21-year-old Kevin Sobnosky at the Sheetz gas station at North Cassady Avenue on Oct. 30, 2022.

The Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said Sobnosky and three of his friends were getting ready to drive back to Youngstown after attending a party at The Ohio State University.

The group stopped for gas at the gas station when two other groups were getting into a confrontation that led to a shootout.

The prosecutor’s office said Ross fired several rounds into the car Sobnosky was in, striking and killing him.

The jury reached a guilty verdict after a six-day trial.
