Records: Man charged for punching Columbus officer in Brewery District

Brian Steel, the president of FOP Capital City Lodge 9, said Dasean Barnes broke the officer's orbital bone and will need surgery.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — An officer with the Columbus Division of Police was punched in the face while responding to a report of a naked man in the Brewery District Monday morning, court records show.

Franklin County Municipal Court records say officers were dispatched to the area of South High and Sycamore streets for a report of a naked man.

Arriving officers made contact with a man, later identified as 35-year-old Dasean Barnes, who was reportedly only wearing a loose pair of cargo shorts that were falling down.

Court records say officers tried to detain Barnes and a chase began. During the chase, Barnes allegedly punched an officer on the left side of his face, causing visible injuries.

Brian Steel, the president of FOP Capital City Lodge 9, said Barnes broke the officer's orbital bone and will need surgery.

Barnes was taken into custody and charged with assault on a police officer and a probation violation, both of which are felonies according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office website.
