Columbus police arrest suspect in case of man who died from apparent assault

Police were originally investigating the incident as a felonious assault, but it was changed to a homicide investigation.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police arrested a suspect charged in a man's death on the city's south side last month.

Officers were called to East Whittier Street and Parsons Avenue on March 29 after receiving a complaint about an incident in the area. When they arrived, they found a man, later identified as 61-year-old Dwayne Dowdell, unconscious and bleeding from the head. Dowdell was taken to a hospital and died the next day.

Police were originally investigating the incident as a felonious assault, but it was changed to a homicide investigation.

Detectives identified 35-year-old Joshua Hunt as a suspect in the case. A warrant was filed for his arrest on Monday and he was arrested on Wednesday.

Details on what led up to Dowdell's death were not provided

Hunt is charged with involuntary manslaughter.
