The Columbus Division of Police said the assault happened in the 100 block of Belvidere Avenue around 3 p.m.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A parent of a Columbus City Schools student is accused of assaulting a bus driver in Hilltop neighborhood Tuesday.

The Columbus Division of Police said the assault happened in the 100 block of Belvidere Avenue, just south of West Broad Street, around 3 p.m.

A CCS spokesperson said the driver stopped at a drop-off location when the individual got on the bus and assaulted the driver. The parent left the scene before police arrived.

There were several students on the bus at the time of the assault. A supervisor continued the driver's route to get students home.

"We are working with the school administrator to notify the families of those students that witnessed the incident. We are also working with Columbus Police as they investigate," the spokesperson said.

Police said the driver is being treated at the scene for their injuries. It's unclear what led up to the assault.
