COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 6-year-old girl who was abducted from New York City was found safe in west Columbus on Tuesday, according to police.
The Columbus Division of Police says it received information from the New York Police Department around noon about a possible abduction involving a man and a child.
NYPD said it the mother of the child told police she had an ongoing custody dispute with the child's father. The mother said she met with the girl's father on Nov. 9 and gave him temporary custody.
On Tuesday around 11 a.m., the mother said she received a phone call from the father. He claimed that he wanted $300 or he would kill himself and the child.
The mother told police the father claimed to be at an unknown hotel with the child. NYPD put out a "be on the lookout" alert and an Amber Alert.
Columbus police received a possible location for both the suspect and the child. SWAT officers arrived at the Pilot Travel Center on Interchange Road off North Wilson Road and found them.
The suspect was taken into custody and the child was found to be safe.
Police did not say what charges the father is facing.
