CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A man reportedly fired shots at a Ross County home Monday morning before leading authorities on a multi-county pursuit, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies from the Ross County Sheriff’s Office were called to a home in the 9500 block of state Route 772, southwest of Chillicothe, around 10 a.m. on a report of a shooting.
Deputies and detectives determined that a man forced his way into the home of an acquaintance. When inside, he allegedly threatened the woman and another man with a firearm, the sheriff’s office said.
The suspect and woman reportedly got into a physical fight before he left the house and got into a vehicle.
The sheriff’s office said the suspect then fired two rounds toward the house, one of which hit a vehicle in the driveway.
A description of the man’s vehicle, a Sienna minivan, was shared with law enforcement in the area and the South Bloomfield Police Department found the vehicle and started a pursuit. The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol joined in on the chase.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office deployed a spike strip as the van entered their county, causing both front tires to deflate.
As the suspect continued driving the van through Mount Sterling, the sheriff's office says a South Bloomfield police officer collided with a semi during the chase. The officer was injured in the crash but the extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.
Deputies found the van disabled just outside of Mount Sterling on O'Day Harrison Road. The sheriff's office says the man exited the van with a handgun and one of the the deputies ordered him to put the gun down.
Shortly after, the man shot himself, according to the sheriff's office. He was taken to a hospital and his condition is unknown.
