Marion man found guilty of fatally shooting roommate last year

The jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts on his charges after only a few hours of deliberation.

MARION, Ohio — A Marion man was found guilty on all counts by a jury Thursday for the 2023 shooting death of his roommate.

Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan's office said Justin Brady was found guilty of aggravated murder, multiple counts of murder and multiple counts of felonious assault in the death of 25-year-old D'Jontaez "DJ" Ross.

Grogan's office said Brady had previously called 911 and explained that the apartment he and Ross shared on Libby Lane in Marion might turn into a “murder crime scene.”

On July 17, 2023, Brady told a friend that he wanted to put a bullet between Ross’ eyebrows.  In the early hours of July 21, 2023, Brady shot Ross while he was lying on a couch sleeping, according to the prosecutor's office.

The jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts on his charges after only a few hours of deliberation.

Brady faces a potential sentence of life in prison without parole.

“As we approach the sentencing date, my prayers are with DJ's family and friends,” Grogan said. “While no court decision can fully heal the pain of their loss, we hope this conviction will offer them some comfort. I want to thank the officers who worked tirelessly on this case."
