MARION, Ohio — A Marion city councilman is facing charges after he was accused of raping a girl under the age of 15 Sunday night, according to records from Marion County Municipal Court.
In a video statement posted Tuesday, Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan said he approved law enforcement officers to arrest Ayers Ratliff Monday night.
A complaint filed in Marion County Municipal Court alleges that Ratliff raped a girl under the age of 15 at his home. Court records state that the victim told a friend who reported it to a school guidance counselor the next day, and Marion police were notified.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted police with a search warrant at Ratliff’s home. Officers found physical and electronic evidence, according to Grogan. Ratliff was then arrested and charged with rape.
The Marion Police Department told 10TV that Ratliff is currently being held in the Multi-County Correctional Center.
Grogan said his office will seek a high bond against Ratliff during his arraignment.
The Marion City Council's website lists Ratliff as a councilman for Ward 2.
