COLUMBUS, Ohio — A judge on Monday sentenced a man who beat his ex-girlfriend for several hours four years ago to nearly 30 years in prison.
A woman, an Ohio State student, went over to Chris Garcia's off-campus apartment in November 2019 to end a relationship with him, according to Franklin County Common Pleas court records. 10TV is not naming the woman.
In court, the woman said Garcia beat her for eight hours with a belt, his hands and her shoes.
“I was beaten for hours and hours on end,” the woman said.
During court, the woman's father begged the judge to give Garcia a maximum sentence.
“Degraded her, threatened her, threatened her mother's life, threatened to have her placed into sex trafficking and have her disappear,” the woman's dad said.
Garcia admitted he also forced her to stand naked in a cold shower for two hours and took Snapchat videos while calling her names and sending the videos to his friends.
“We are here because of the inexcusable, unprovoked actions of one person. We have a difficult time even calling him a person. He really isn't. We refer to him as the monster,” the woman's mother said.
The judge explained how Garcia put a gun in the woman's mouth and pulled the trigger, saying Garcia was lucky there was no bullet inside the gun.
“First-time offenders don't usually spend hours torturing and assaulting someone that they allegedly care about," said Franklin County Common Please Judge Andria Noble.
Garcia pleaded guilty to counts of felonious assault and one count of abduction back in September. The judge sentenced him to 28 years in prison.
