Judge finds man guilty of murder in 2022 northeast Columbus stabbing

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man charged with murder in a 2022 fatal stabbing in northeast Columbus was found guilty on Tuesday.

On Oct. 22, Columbus Division of Police officers went to the 6100 block of Cooper Colony Drive for a reported stabbing.

When they arrived, officers found 60-year-old William Dammond stabbed. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Authorities arrested 26-year-old Brandarius Agnew not far from the scene of the stabbing. 

According to the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office, Agnew admitted to stabbing Dammond, but pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. He waived his right to a jury trial.

Judge Andy Miller found Agnew guilty of murder and tampering with evidence.

Agnew faces a potential life sentence with the possibility of parole in 15 to 25 years.

Agnew is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 14, 2025.
