COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man was fatally shot during his birthday celebration early Saturday morning on the city’s east side, according to the Columbus Division of Police.
Officers were called to Napa Townhomes in the 4000 block of Vineshire Drive of the Leawood neighborhood around 12:35 a.m. on a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found 34-year-old Tyler Goins suffering from a gunshot wound.
Medics pronounced Goins dead at the scene.
Police say Goins was with two other men celebrating his 34th birthday and had been drinking when an argument reportedly began. During the argument, police say one of the men, identified as 30-year-old Al'Saiah Griffin, allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot at Goins.
After the shooting, Griffin left the area but later surrendered to police at the urging of his family members.
He is now charged with murder in the death of Goins and is being held at the Franklin County Jail.
Police say they are still working to identify the third man known as “Bookie.”
Anyone with information on the incident or who knows the true identity of “Bookie” is asked to call 614-645-2558 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477 (TIPS).
