COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection to an east Columbus shooting that left another man dead earlier this month.
On Dec. 4, officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called to the intersection of Cole Street and Rhoads Avenue, on the city’s east side, on a report of an unresponsive person on the side of the road around 11:18 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers found a man, identified as 23-year-old Jaylon Reed, suffering from a gunshot wound. Reed was taken to Grant Medical Center, where he later died.
According to Franklin County Municipal Court records, Reed was with the suspect, identified as Andre Franks, Jr., in the area of Rhoads Avenue and Cole Street, where they were engaged in sexual conduct. Franks allegedly fired a gun toward Reed, shooting him once. Franks fled the scene in a vehicle.
Franks was arraigned Saturday morning, where a judge set his bond at $1 million. He was also ordered to stay away from the victim’s next-of-kin, and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Dec. 23.
