COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man and a woman were charged in a shooting that left two people dead at Krumm Park in east Columbus last week.
Franklin County court records say 18-year-old Tyrez Turner and 31-year-old Ladavia Fortner were both charged with murder in the deaths of 18-year-old Jakwaun Kimbro and 29-year-old Lonnie Johnston. The shooting happened at the park on June 3.
Turner was indicted on two counts of aggravated murder and four counts of murder as well as six other felonies, including tampering with evidence and having weapons under disability. He was arrested a week later on unrelated charges.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Franklin County Municipal Court, Fortner was also charged with murder, but details of her role in the shooting were not spelled out in the document.
Officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called out to the park for a reported shooting on the night of June 3. The Franklin County Coroner's Office said Kimbro and Johnston were pronounced dead at the scene.
Earlier that evening, a vigil was held at the park for 18-year-old Da’Mya Cummerlander. She was fatally shot on June 2 during a graduation party on Woodsedge Road. Police continue to investigate whether the shooting at Krumm Park was connected to the vigil.
A 20-year-old man, Kenneth Hairston, was charged with involuntary manslaughter in Cummerlander's death.
Anyone with information on either shooting is asked to contact the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
