Police: 18-year-old east Columbus shooting suspect turns himself in

The shooting happened on July 15 in the area of Kent Street and Lilley Avenue.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police says an 18-year-old accused of shooting and killing a man last week in east Columbus is currently in jail.

On July 15, officers were called to the 700 block of Lilley Avenue just before 5 p.m.

Police found 46-year-old Reynard Reed lying on the sidewalk in front of a residence suffering from a gunshot wound to his stomach.

An initial investigation found that Reed was involved in an altercation which led to the shooting.

Reed was transported by medics to Grant Medical Center in "extremely critical condition.” He was pronounced dead at 5:37 p.m.

Reed’s death is the 71st homicide in Columbus this year.

On Wednesday, police said 18-year-old Jonathan Hopkins was been identified as the suspect in this shooting.

A murder warrant was issued and Hopkins turned himself into the Franklin County Jail where he is currently in custody, according to police.

Hopkins was arraigned Thursday and given a $500,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 29.
