Officers were called to the 4000 block of McAllister Avenue on a report of shots being fired in the area. Police arrived at the intersection of McAllister Avenue and Lockwood Road and encountered Roach who had a rifle.
Before the officers’ arrival, police said Roach had also fired at other bystanders and pointed the rifle at a man on a bike. No neighbors were injured.
Roach fired shots at the officers during the encounter. At least one officer returned fire, hitting Roach, according to police. No officers were injured.
Officers provided aid to Roach until medics arrived and transported him to Mount Carmel East. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Officers and medics who were still at the scene were directed to a house on Lockwood Road where they found a woman, identified as 45-year-old Nicole Pleasant, who was shot by Roach before police arrived.
She was pronounced dead at the scene just before 7:20 p.m.
Police have not provided further details on what led to Pleasant’s death, but Columbus police said it stemmed from a domestic situation.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting involving police.
