LANCASTER, Ohio — A man who was arrested Thursday morning for allegedly kidnapping a woman in Grove City escaped custody hours later, authorities say.
The Lancaster Police Department says it responded to the Fairfield Medical Center to help find an escaped prisoner, identified as 38-year-old Quinntel Bagley, around 1:20 p.m.
Grove City officers were escorting Bagley to a cruiser after receiving treatment at the center. Grove City police say he escaped officers and ran out of a parking garage and into a nearby wooded area.
According to police, Bagley broke into a home and stole a Hyundai Sante Fe and drove away. The vehicle was located in the area of U.S. 33 and Hamilton Road.
Bagley was last seen on foot around 4:45 p.m. in tan clothing when he tried to carjack someone. Police are continuing to search the area.
Bagley is considered to be armed and dangerous and members of the public should not approach him and call 911 instead.
Around 4 a.m., Grove City police responded to a report of a missing woman. Grove City detectives determined Bagley surprised the woman at her residence, grabbed her and forced her into his vehicle.
Bagley is charged with aggravated burglary and kidnapping. Police say he has an extensive criminal history and is also a registered sex offender.
