COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 20-year-old Columbus man is charged with murder in the death of a 13-year-old boy.
Jaivon Jones was arrested last week in connection with the shooting death of Angel Diaz more than two months ago.
On April 14, officers were called to Medina Avenue and East Hudson Street after receiving a ShotSpotter alert from the area. Police did not find anything in the area at the time.
Nearly two hours later, officers were called to East Hudson Street after receiving a report of a dead body. They found Diaz’s body in an alley. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Ford Escape was seen leaving the scene after the shooting happened. Franklin County Municipal Court records say that detectives determined that the SUV was driven by Jones. A witness told police that they saw gunshots coming from the vehicle.
Detectives found and contacted Jones who admitted to being the driver of the vehicle when shots were fired. Court records say he denied that the shot came from his SUV.
Police filed an arrest warrant for Jones on June 20.
Jones is scheduled to appear in Franklin County Municipal Court on Friday.
