COLUMBUS, Ohio — LifeCare Alliance is mourning the loss of a volunteer who was killed in a crash while delivering for Meals on Wheels in November.
Aimee Burbacher, 46, was on her route on Nov. 26, when she was hit and killed by a vehicle on Chatterton Road, according to reports from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office
Authorities say the driver had first struck a pedestrian at Chatterton and Brice roads and was driving away from that scene when she struck Burbacher.
Burbacher had been volunteering with Meals on Wheels for about a year before her death, and was a devoted volunteer, according to LifeCare Alliance President & CEO Chuck Gehring.
“She was a good person who was doing a good thing for the community trying to help out and didn’t deserve this,” Gehring said.
Outside of being a volunteer, Gehring said Burbacher was a mother to four children.
Gehring said his staff and volunteers have been shocked by Burbacher’s death.
“Her husband told me she really enjoyed doing it and it was a good thing for her. She really wanted to give back to the community so she is giving back to the community and ends up being killed,” Gehring said.
The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver is currently charged with operating without a license and failure to stop. She was also charged with felonious assault on the same day.
10TV looked into the driver’s record and found she has been charged in a slew of traffic violations that date back to 2017.
The driver is due in court on Jan. 8.
