'This is our sanctuary': Hilliard homeowner worried after house struck by gunfire

The homeowner, who wants to remain anonymous, discovered multiple bullets that struck their home.

HILLIARD, Ohio — A Hilliard homeowner is speaking out after their home near the Scioto River was struck by gunfire.

The homeowner, who wants to remain anonymous, discovered multiple bullets that struck their home. One of the bullets went through their kitchen and another into a nursery.

Hilliard police found casings across the Scioto River near Griggs Reservoir Shelter House 5 and believe three suspects were shooting from that location.

"This is our sanctuary. Something's changed," the homeowner said. "Unnerving just begins to describe it. It was surreal to process it all. I'm angry, I'm sad, I'm frightened.”

The homeowner said they heard gunshots on three different nights. One night, bullets riddled their home.

“Didn't really process that it was gunshots in the middle of the night because frankly, we had never heard gunshots before,” the homeowner said.

When they woke up, their microwave door had been shattered. It took awhile to figure out where the bullet came from, until Hilliard police searched the home and found and entry point.

That's not the scariest part.

“My son-in-law and nephew were here and decided to walk around the house to see if there was any other evidence and went upstairs and saw that the room we use as my grandson's nursery, the window was shattered with a bullet wound and there was an entry point in the drywall, very close to his crib,” the homeowner said.

The bullet entered at the same level where her grandson would have been sleeping.

“My grandson was supposed to sleep over the night before. I can't tell you how many times I've replayed what could have been, thank goodness not. It has really rattled us,” the homeowner said.

Thankful no one was hurt, this homeowner just wants the suspects caught so it stops happening and that the suspects are taught a lesson.

“An apology is certainly not good enough. I just don't know,” the homeowner said when asked how they want the suspects punished.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Hilliard police at 614-334-2326.
