COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Franklin County Sheriff's Office released body camera video Monday of a shooting in Gahanna involving deputies last week.
The shooting happened while deputies were serving an arrest warrant at a construction site at 825 Tech Center Drive near Morrison Road on Oct. 29. The construction site is for the new Gahanna Municipal Complex.
Deputy Chief Rick Minerd said deputies with the SWAT unit were serving multiple misdemeanor arrest warrants on the suspect, identified as 32-year-old Alexander Tolber. The warrants were fleeing/eluding an officer in a vehicle, menacing by stalking, obstructing official business and criminal trespassing. He also has a misdemeanor assault charge out of Fairfield County.
SWAT was sent because the sheriff's office was informed that he could be armed.
Deputies are seen arriving to the site and walking up to Tolber, telling him they have warrants for his arrest. Tolber can be seen walking backward, replying "For what, bro?"
A deputy gets closer to Tolber while he was backing up and Tolber is seen reaching for his back pocket. The sheriff's office says he pulled out what appeared to be a gun and pointed it at deputies.
Bodycam shows the deputy and Tolber distancing themselves as a black SUV with lights on pulls up.
At least three deputies fired, hitting Tolber.
Tolber was taken to Mount Carmel East hospital in critical condition. The sheriff's office says he is expected to survive.
A gun was recovered from the scene.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations is investigating the incident.
