Former central Ohio hospital nurse pleads guilty to downloading images of child sexual abuse material

Ryan Ramos pleaded guilty to one count of distributing and receiving child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography, authorities say.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A former Nationwide Children's Hospital employee who treated child burn victims pleaded guilty on Tuesday to downloading, exchanging and receiving child sexual abuse material.

According to U.S. Attorney Kenneth Parker’s office, 38-year-old Ryan Ramos pleaded guilty to one count of distributing and receiving child pornography and one count of possessing child pornography.

Ramos worked at Nationwide Children's Hospital from 2018 to 2020 and then at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in the ICU burn trauma unit until 2023. Ramos is a registered nurse, according to the Ohio Board of Nursing.

Court documents say a 2020 FBI investigation in their Brooklyn-Queens office led agents to discover Ramos' participation in a Signal app group dedicated to exchanging child sexual abuse material.

Ramos shared hundreds of images and videos of child sexual abuse, including abuse of young boys and infants, in the chat group.

Authorities say Ramos paid a sexual offender in New York in 2018 and received child sexual abuse material created by the offender in exchange for $500.

Ramos cellphone had more than 346,000 Signal, Telegram and other online chat messages, most of which Ramos was distributing, seeking, receiving or discussing child sexual abuse material.

Ramos is currently in custody pending sentencing. He faces an imprisonment range of five to 20 years in prison.
