COLUMBUS, Ohio — A former Columbus probationary officer pleaded guilty to reckless operation after police say she drove on Interstate 70 while drunk earlier this year.
On March 2, the former officer was seen by an Ohio state trooper committing multiple marked lane violations as she traveled down I-70. The trooper followed her vehicle as she exited onto Brice Road and pulled her over for a traffic stop.
A police report stated that the former officer agreed to all of the standardized field sobriety testing and was arrested for an OVI.
She was administered a breathalyzer and results showed that her blood-alcohol content was .098 blood-alcohol content, which is above the legal limit of .08. The former officer was cited and then released to a friend.
A letter to Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant said that the officer’s license was confiscated and she was issued a summons to appear.
The letter also asked for the officer’s employment with the division to be terminated due to the “violation of the division rules of conduct.” Her termination was approved on March 7.
The former officer appeared in Franklin County Municipal Court on March 25 and pleaded not guilty to the OVI charge.
According to the court docket, the former officer accepted a plea agreement and pleaded guilty to an amended charge of reckless operation on May 29. As part of the agreement, she was fined $150.
