Police: Man, dog killed in shooting at east Columbus apartment complex

Officers were called out to Stone Lodge Apartments on Cedar Drive around 9 p.m. for a report of a crash, but later found a man struck by gunfire.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — UPDATE: The man who was shot at the apartment complex has died. Columbus police identified him as 27-year-old Remarcus Heagler.

A man was seriously injured after being shot at an east Columbus apartment complex Wednesday night.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers were called out to Stone Lodge Apartments on Cedar Drive around 9 p.m. for a report of a crash, but later found a man struck by gunfire.

Officers found shell casings in front of the apartment complex where the shooting happened. The officers then learned the man was in a car and he tried driving around the complex until he hit a car on the other side of the complex, according to Sgt. Joe Albert.

The man was taken to Mount Carmel East hospital in critical condition.

Officers also found a dog in the car that died from gunshot wounds.
