COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 27-year-old man who was shot at an east Columbus apartment complex last week has died from his injuries, police said.
On Aug. 21, the Columbus Division of Police was called to Stone Lodge Apartments on Cedar Drive around 9 p.m. for a reported crash. Officers later found out that a man, identified as Remarcus Heagler, was struck by gunfire.
Shell casings were found in front of the apartment complex where the shooting happened. Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert said that officers learned that Heagler was in a car, and he tried driving around the complex until he hit a car on the other side of the property.
Heagler was taken to Mount Carmel East hospital in critical condition. He died two days later from his injuries, but police did not release information about his death until Tuesday. It is unclear whether his death stemmed from injuries in the shooting or the crash.
Officers also found a dog in the car that died from gunshot wounds.
Information on a possible suspect was not available.
Anyone with information on the deadly shooting is asked to call the Columbus Police Homicide Unity at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477).
