COLUMBUS, Ohio — A mother was arrested for allegedly driving while impaired and crashing her vehicle in Pike County Monday afternoon, resulting in the death of one of her daughters, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Just before 3:45 p.m., 43-year-old Chasity Bliss was heading east on Jasper Road in a 2005 Ford Focus with her two daughters, ages 5 and 7, in the back seat.
OSHP said Bliss drove off the left side of the road, ramping over a driveway, and struck a utility pole and a tree before coming to a stop in a field.
The 7-year-old girl died from her injuries at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The 5-year-old girl was not injured.
Bliss was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and endangering children. She is currently being held in the Pike County jail.
The roadway was reduced to one lane for multiple hours while the crash was being investigated.
The Elm Grove Fire Department, Portsmouth Ambulance, the Waverly Police Department and the Pike County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the crash, which remains under investigation.
