A judge ruled that a statement made by William Inman, Sr.'s wife will not be allowed as part of his murder trial.
Inman Sr. is charged with aggravated murder in the death of his daughter-in-law, who was strangled with a zip tie and dumped in a septic tank in 2011.
His wife, Sandra, and son have been convicted in the slaying of Summer Inman in 2011.
Defense attorneys wanted to use a statement from Sandra Inman without calling her to the stand.
The judge ruled on Thursday that the statement would not be admissible under law.
William Inman, 48, could face the death penalty if convicted.
The case is being tried in Ross County after a jury could not be seated in Hocking County.
