Residents near Goodale Park awoke Tuesday to find graffiti on a fountain that has faced numerous other problems this summer.

Jason Kentner, president of Friends of Goodale Park, said that he walked by the park with his dog Tuesday morning and saw the graffiti on the 750,000-pound stone fountain.

"We had it without water for a year and a half, and no one touched it," Kenter said. "Now, that it's in the middle of the pond, someone took the effort to be foolish."

Kentner said that the vandalism makes the project to find a leak more difficult. Crews have been trying to find the source of a leak since spring.

Michele Rapp, founder of The Ladies Explorer Club, said that she saw the vandalism while on a Segway Tour near the park.

"It breaks my heart that somebody would do something like this, because it's such a beautiful park," Rapp said. "We work so hard to promote this city and to have people come here and visit, and this is just salt in the wound."

City officials used a pressure washer to attempt to remove the graffiti.
