Columbus Police are investigating after a body was found in a basement in the 700 block of South Champion Avenue Sunday afternoon. The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Dametrious Edwards.
Police say Edwards was reported missing on Labor Day.
On September 13, police were called to the South Champion Avenue home on a report of a deceased person. Upon arrival, Edwards’ body was found in the basement.
Police initially believed Edwards died from a gunshot wound, however after further evaluation, they say he died from “trauma.” However, the exact cause of death remains undetermined.
28-year-old Danyell Florida and Kalene Bartlett, 22, have been charged with abuse of a corpse. The pair remains at large and should be considered armed and dangerous.
