Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced Monday afternoon that a 53-year-old man has been indicted on multiple charges in connection with the Steubenville High School rape case.
Steubenville High School football players Trent Mays and Ma'Lik Richmond were found guilty in March of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl.
They were not charged until photos and videos of the night of the incident later surfaced online, prompting an investigation by local and state authorities.
Now, according to the AG's Office, William Rhinaman has been indicted for tampering with evidence, obstructing justice, obstructing official business and perjury.
The charges are related to Rhinaman's position as an employee of the Steubenville City Schools in the area of information technology.
"This is the first indictment the grand jury has returned. This is an ongoing investigation. The grand jury will continue to meet and they're not finished," DeWine said.
DeWine would not say what exactly Rhinaman is accused of doing.
In April, agents with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal investigations collected boxes of items from Steubenville High School in connection with the case.
Rhinaman's arrest was applauded Monday by the attorney for the sexual assault victim.
"We all wish nothing would have happened," said Robert Fitzsimmons. "Everybody would like to go back to that day back on August 2012 and eliminate it but it cant be eliminated. So then what do we do as a society and we have to address the problem and we have to correct them and sometimes it requires punishment and indictments."
