A retired Columbus Police officer surrendered to a SWAT team at his home on Thursday.
 
Columbus police said Steven Dean came out peacefully from his residence on the east side.
 
Dean has been charged for aggravated menacing after making verbal threats over the phone to an attorney.
 
According to a police report, Dean is considered the suspect and called the attorney about a pending case.
 
The report states that the conversation started out calm and then escalated.
 
According to the Columbus police report:
 
Suspect: "You don't want to upset me today, today is not the day"
Victim: "I'll be courteous and professional to you"
Suspect: "Shut your mouth and don't interrupt me"
Victim: "Don't talk to me that way"
Suspect: "If you don't do what I want I will come down there with a gun and shoot you or a knife and stab you"
