New Billboards Ask For Help Solving Murder

There are new billboards up in Columbus asking for help solving a murder. Get the story.

Zach White is bigger than life on a billboard by the Hollywood Casino.

It loudly asks anyone passing by, who killed him? White's mother lives nearby and finds comfort in the message.

"That's all I want is to keep it going, to keep it out there. I don't want it to be forgotten," said Debra Kinney.

White was killed in September 2012. Kinney says her son had stopped at a house on Columbus' north side to buy some furniture.

"They wanted his money and he said no. And when he went to walk away, they shot him," said Kinney.

She raced over to the scene. Her son was pronounced dead. Kinney watched for hours as he lay on the sidewalk.

"It's rainy. It's cold. He's laying there. Yes, he's gone, but that doesn't make a difference to a mom," said Kinney.

Kinney says the house was full of people but they cleared out before police moved in. She says conflicting stories and a lack of cooperation has stalled the investigation.

"We're just missing a couple pieces of the puzzle and once we get those couple pieces of the puzzle, I think the investigation will end," Kinney said.

Two men were originally charged with murder, Quandale Booth and Jordan Hill.

Those charges have been dropped, Kinney said, because of a lack of evidence.

Booth is in jail on unrelated drug charges right now.

"Somebody needs to pay. They're dangerous people. I want them off the street so it doesn't happen to another child," said Kinney.

Kinney and her husband don't want another family to feel their pain.

"He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anybody. He didn't like to see anybody going without," said stepfather Danny Kinney.

"There's just a big piece missing. A big piece missing. The family's not complete anymore," said Kinney.

The billboards are in several locations.

They ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS.
