A central Ohio woman convicted of firing a shot at a firefighter who was trying to put out a fire in her back yard has been sentenced to five years in prison.

The judge in Marion, about 50 miles north of Columbus, sentenced 43-year-old Sheila Markley on Monday to two years for felonious assault and another three years for using a firearm in the crime.

Police said Markley fired a shot while firefighters were investigating an illegal burn near her house. She said Monday she never intended to hurt or scare the firefighter. She said "everything went bad in the blink of an eye."

A prosecutor and firefighters tell The Marion Star they're disappointed in the sentence and believe Markley should have gotten more prison time.
