A man will spend 12 years behind bars after pleading guilty to running a prostitution ring and distributing heroin to the women involved.

According to the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office, the ring run by 40-year-old David Nelms was active in Delaware and Franklin Counties.

Officials said that Nelms used the women’s drug addictions to keep them engaged in the prostitution ring.

Nelms was first investigated after the Ohio Attorney General’s Office received a tip in 2011 that he may have trafficked up to a dozen women over a period of several years.

Nelms was indicted in September 2012. He pleaded guilty earlier this month to charges of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and possession of heroin.
