Husband Sentenced For Shooting Wife, Man

A judge sentenced a man to 33 years in prison for critically wounding the man’s estranged wife and another man in a shooting.

A judge sentenced a man to 33 years in prison for critically wounding his estranged wife and another man in a shooting.

George Conrad, 49, pleaded guilty in December to shooting his wife, Misty M. Sellars, 36, of Tarlton, and Kevin M. Iles, 38, of Bremen.

Sellars and Iles did not appear in court on Friday. Friends said that Sellars was unable to face her now ex-husband, the father of her two teenage daughters.

She instead listened from the next room as her aunt, Pamela Wills, read a chilling statement of how Conrad shot her friend and then held a gun to her head and pulled the trigger on Jan. 7, 2012 near Schory and East Fair avenues.

“When I went out to warm up my vehicle, I saw George hiding in my car, crouched down behind the driver’s seat. I saw the look in his eyes, the gun in his hand. I knew, without a doubt, that he was there to kill me,” read Wills on Friday.

Sellars had gotten two protection orders and said that she slept with her cell phone, mace and eventually her gun.

“He chased me down like an animal, grabbed my arm, looked me in the eye and said, ‘You shouldn’t have cheated on me.’ I begged him not to do this, ‘No, please no,’ as he put the gun to my face and pulled the trigger. Bang. I was left there face down on the cold hard ground to die.”

It was only during statements from his daughters from a previous marriage that Conrad reacted emotionally.

Police said that Conrad fired the shots and ran away from the scene. He was later arrested in Pickaway County.

A judge rejected the defense’s argument about Conrad’s mental illness, sentencing him to 33 years in prison – a jail term that will keep him behind bars until his 80s.

Sellars' family said that they felt justice was served and hoped that the woman's experiences would serve as a reminder to other women to trust their instincts in dangerous situations.
